Joseph DeMarco was born in New York City; he lived most of his life in Buffalo, NY. He now teaches seventh grade at Waianae Int. on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. He is the author of the novels Plague of the Invigilare, The 4 Hundred and 20 Assassins of Emir Abdullah-Harazins, At Play in the Killing Fields, and Blind Savior, False Prophet. He is currently working on several new projects.

It has been regularly argued that Hawaii is the fiftieth state that was admitted to the Union. What most history books won’t tell you is that the islands were taken by force. A group of wealthy land owners led by Sanford Dole and calling themselves the Committee of Safety, took the island by force. The Queen not wanting bloodshed and figuring the Americans would eventually come to their senses and realize what they were doing was unjust and evil, kept the peace. It would be a hundred years before most Hawaiians would learn the truth.

I'd love to see more Hawaii mysteries listed here. There is a great list at http://www.leftcoastcrime.org/2009/hawaii_books.html.
Deborah Turrell Atkinson, Baron Birtcher, Charles Knief, John Madinger Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl and Chip Hughes have all written terrific mysteries set in the islands.
There's also my Mahu series; the most recent is Mahu Vice.

I LOVE your book! I’m just amazed at how you so eloquently captured the culture. I’m finding very few errors, if any. I was expecting to not enjoy it…I read so many books about Hawaii that are horribly inaccurate, and inadvertently insulting to the culture, but I find myself longing for night so I can curl up and read.
