Teaching children that, although it may take some time, dreams can come true, this spiral-bound board book comes with a blister pack of lima bean seeds and directions for growing them at home.
Brent Ching, a Honolulu-based pediatric dentist with a private practice at Kapi‘olani Medical Center, originally wrote The Little Lima Bean as a poem to inspire his father, suffering from kidney disease, to persevere through tough times.

When friends suggested that he develop the poem into a children’s book, he asked a friend, Jordan Santos, to create the illustrations that bring the determined little bean to life. Dr. Ching holds a master’s degree and doctorate in dental surgery from Indiana University. He is a HONOLULU Magazine "Best Dentist" and was named Cosmopolitan magazine's "Hawaii Bachelor" for 2007. The Little Lima Bean is his first children’s book.
Illustrator Jordan Santos is a career firefighter who devotes his free time to his artwork. He holds a B.A. in Art from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. For the past 10 years he has worked on multimedia design projects for clients such as Konami Computer Entertainment, Oceanic Time Warner Cable and Hawai‘i Pacific University. The Little Lima Bean is his first children’s book.
The Little Lima Bean and Dr. Ching have appeared on the KHNL8 and KGMB9 morning news shows, and been reviewed by The Honolulu Advertiser, Diane Ako and the Hawaii Book Blog.
