Unless you read German, a better choice to plan a vacation around might be the largest *U.S.* book event, Miami Book Fair International. According to its website, www.miamibookfair.com, it’s “the largest literary festival in the country. The eight-day book party draws hundreds of thousands of book lovers to downtown Miami each November for a festival of all things read and written.” There was earlier discussion on this site (HawaiiReaders.com) about how much one would pay to see/hear an author talk. How ‘bout $10 each for Margaret Atwood, Barbara Kingsolver or Isabella Rosellini, free for Al Gore, Ruth Reichl or Sherman Alexie? Those are the going rates at Miami, though also see $50 workshops. If Miami’s still too far, try the LA Times fest www.latimes.com/extras/festivalofbooks in April.
