The LA Times Festival of Books was held last weekend (4/24-25) and drew a record crowd...bookstore booths were busy...happy proof that the printed book is alive and well:

Thanks for the link. I hope we have a great crowd this year, but there are two big differences: population size, and authors. LA County alone has almost 10 million. Since we have less than 10% of that, we can expect about 10% of their turnout - which is about what we get. As for authors: "Henry Winkler, Bret Easton Ellis, David Lynch, Alice Waters, and Buzz Aldrin were among the many celebrities who both appeared on panels and sat in booksellers' booths to meet fans." If Alice Waters came, a lot of people who would never think of going to a book festival would be there! In fact, I've always felt that instead of having a book and music festival we should have a book and food festival. Now THAT would draw!

Makana, But we neeeed music, too, so let's not leave that out. I think food would be a great addition.

How about books, music, food and wine!

I like that idea!! Still, even without the wine I'm very excited about the festival this year, only one more week to wait!
