Biodiversity Assessment of Tropical Island Ecosystems: PABITRA Manual for Interactive Ecology and Management
This book was prepared to fill a gap of explaining ecological methodology for biodiversity assessment in island ecosystems. It details methods for systematic sampling and monitoring of the biological diversity in terrestrial, aquatic, coastal, and marine ecosystems for tropical island environments.
The oceanic island network PABITRA (Pacific-Asia Biodiversity Transect) requires some special methodological considerations. From inland mountains to the sea, island ecosystems vary from cloud forests, agro-ecosystems, coastal and near-shore marine habitats over short distances. They occupy small areas and are structurally and functionally interconnected.
Produced in cooperation with PABITRA, Asia Pacific Network for Global Change Research, University of the South Pacific, Pacific Science Association, Bishop Museum, University of Guam, and University of Hawai‘i.
